Qld; Judge dismisses prisoners DNA avoidance bid
A Supreme Court judge has dismissed a bid by four Queensland prisoners convicted of
minor offences, who are seeking to avoid compulsory DNA testing.
Justice MARGARET WILSON dismissed the prisoners' application yesterday.
But -- after an application for an appeal by one of the prisoners -- she also ruled
that there should be no sampling of their DNA before 4 pm on Monday.
The prisoners -- GEOFF BROGDEN, PAUL BARTON, BRETT EASTWELL and KEVIN CONNELL -- argue
that because they were convicted in the magistrates' court, the police service has no
right to force them to have DNA testing.
