Thai tourism officials seek to minimize impact of unrest in south.

Nov. 4--Deputy Prime Minister Suwat Liptapanlop has called on public and private tourism-related agencies to jointly minimise the impact of the unrest in the South on the tourism industry.

He chaired a meeting on the issue yesterday with representatives from the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), Tourism Council of Thailand, Thai Hotels Association and operators of leading hotel chains.

He asked operators of major hotel chains to update the situation through their networks worldwide to assure overseas travellers that the three troubled provinces are far from other major tourist attractions.
